Venetia & Steve Thursday 6th October 2016

11th November 2016 by Alan Schofield

Venetia and Steve chose a Thursday to marry last month at Ocean Kave at Westward Ho! It was a bright autumn day which gave us lots of photo opportunities in this beautiful location. The bride wore a stunning pale rose-pink wedding gown and was attended by two little bridesmaids. As well as photographing at venue of the wedding we went along to the Westward Ho! coastal path and captured some great shots of the bride and groom alongside the North Devon coast. The couple haven’t wasted any time in choosing the images to go in to their storybook album and the design of it is well underway!

Verity & Jack Saturday August 13th 2016

28th August 2016 by Alan Schofield

A beautiful summer’s day greeted guests at the Bucks Mills Church as they gathered for Verity and Jack’s wedding last Saturday afternoon. The bride wore an ivory wedding gown and shoes worn by her mum on her wedding day some thirty years ago. The colour theme for the flowers and bridesmaid’s dresses was a stunning purple, it was also carried through at the reception venue which was a marquee at a close friend’s farm at Higher Clovelley. Cornwall is the destination for the week long honeymoon before returning to the studio to look at the wedding images first thing on Monday morning!

Catherine & Peter Saturday 30th July 2016

28th August 2016 by Alan Schofield

The sun shined once again as Catherine and Peter married at the St Mary Magdalene Church, Chulmleigh deep in the North Devon countryside at the end of last month. A close group of family and friends attended the ceremony followed by a short ride to the Northcote Manor Hotel, the venue for the reception and evening party. A lovely personal touch was the design and quotes by class 3 of the local primary school in the order of service. One of the lines written by one of the 8 year old pupils was ‘Love is when you live with someone forever and kiss’ What more can you say!

Harriet & Will Saturday 2nd July 2016

28th August 2016 by Alan Schofield

The Pier House at Westward Ho! on the North Devon coast was the venue for the wedding of Harriet and Will last month. Family and friends gathered on a scorching summer’s day to celebrate with the couple as they tied the knot. It was a very emotional day for close members of Harriet’s family but they all got through it an really enjoyed the wedding. Duck egg blue was the colour theme for the bridesmaids which complimented the bridal gown beautifully. The couple’s storybook album is being designed at the moment so it won’t be long before they can relive the day once again!

Jemma & Jamie Friday 17th June 2016

28th August 2016 by Alan Schofield

Local couple Jemma and Jamie were joined by family and friends as they married at the Bideford registry office. On the way back to the reception at the Barnstaple Rugby club we stopped at Westward Ho! together with all the guests who were travelling in an old coach for the group photographs. Turquoise was the colour theme of the wedding and looked very pretty for the summer wedding. The food at the reception was provided by the Whiddon Valley chip who came with their own van and served the guests outside!

Hayley & Tom Saturday 11th June 2016

28th August 2016 by Alan Schofield

We met Tom and Hayley together with both sets of parents at The Pier House wedding show just over a year ago so were very familiar with them all on the big day itself! Family and friends had gathered from around the country at Westward Ho! for the special weekend so were all on hand to start celebrating with the happy couple. An old fashioned bus had been laid on to transport some of the guests to St. Mary’s Church Bideford for the wedding service before returning them back to The Pier House for the reception. The bride and her attendants looked lovely with a red theme running through the wedding, a colour which always adds great vibrancy to the photographs. The stunning Bideford Bay provided a great backdrop for photographing Tom and Hayley at various times of the day including next to ‘The Haunted House’ which was the spot where they got engaged. The honeymoon was spent in Disneyland and the whole family is coming in to preview the photographs this week!

Nadia & Richard Saturday 4th June 2016

27th July 2016 by Alan Schofield

The newly renovated Park Hotel Barnstaple was the setting for a small gathering of family and friends at the wedding of Nadia and Richard. After the ceremony everyone made their way across to Rock Park for the group photographs where a tractor belonging to a friend of the family had been brought in specially as it was originally sold to them by Taw Garages when they dealt in farm machinery before becoming a hotel. Nadia looked absolutely stunning in her bridal gown, with light grey and pink providing the colour theme of the rest of the outfits. Unfortunately the rain started to come down before the outside photographs had been finished but that allowed us to come in and photograph in the newly renovated areas of the hotel which was a great success.

27th July 2016 by Alan Schofield

Local couple Tanya and Lee chose the stunning Woolacombe Bay Hotel for their wedding last month which was officiated by Mary Law from Cherished Memories. The weather was rather changeable but we managed to stay dry during the photographs which were taken around the hotel grounds and at the headland at Barracombe beach. The bride was attended by her sister and daughter who wore royal blue. A two week honeymoon in Mexico (a popular destination with our couples this year) was enjoyed after the big day and the storybook album is already in the design process.

Alecia & Stephen Saturday 14th may 2016

27th July 2016 by Alan Schofield

This week we photographed Alecia and Stephen’s wedding at the Saunton Sands Hotel near Braunton. The weather was good to us once again which set a perfect scene for this coastal based wedding which was celebrated with close family and friends. The colour theme was a pale blue with ivory and yellow flowers. It was the first wedding that we had covered with Mary Law from Cherished Memories. The evening proved to be just as warm and sunny which enabled the bride and groom to have some photographs taken walking along the beach before the evening party got underway. Alecia and Stephen honeymooned in Mexico and since returning have already selected their images for their storybook album!

Jess & David Saturday 7th May 2016

29th June 2016 by Alan Schofield

Jess and David’s wedding was the first of the year for us and it certainly didn’t disappoint! What stunning locations we had throughout the glorious late spring day. Buck Mills Church, tucked away in the countryside was the setting for the wedding ceremony followed by the reception at the groom’s parents farm. The location was truly stunning with a view from the marquee and extensive grounds right across the Bideford Bay. After group photographs the wedding party enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea reception followed by games for the children and a time to relax for the grown ups. Before the evening party got underway I took the bride and groom back to Bucks Mills but this time right to the end of the road to the pebble beach for some special romantic shots. Locals and holiday makers looked on as the happy couple posed in some dramatic parts of the rugged coastal spot. We returned to the reception venue for some great evening shots showing the special lighting that had been set up by the groom and his friend in and around the grounds, it really was quite a spectacle.

Theresa & Neil Saturday 18th October 2014

19th November 2014 by Alan Schofield

Bideford couple Theresa and Neil chose the Pier House Inn a Westward Ho! for their wedding last month. The weather was once again kind to us despite the time of year and as always, provided the venue and nearby beach presented lots of good photo opportunities. The bride and her close family and attendants left from a luxury apartment close to the Pier House and met the rest of the bridal party for the civil ceremony in the hotel. Purple was the chosen colour, with the couple’s girls looking as pretty as a picture all day long. When the reception had finished I took Theresa and Neil down to the rocks beneath the Pier House for some lovely evening shots, which gave them a nice break before returning to their guests for the evening party. The happy couple honeymooned in Paris.

Denise & Simon Saturday 27th September 2014

5th November 2014 by Alan Schofield

The autumn sun shone brightly as Winkleigh couple at their local church at the end of September. Family and friends packed the lovely village Church to see the bride and groom ‘finally tie the knot’ as a guest said during one of the readings! Deep lilac was the colour scheme with the smaller bridesmaid wearing cream with contrasting waistbands. After the marriage ceremony and group photographs outside the Church local onlookers waved as the happy couple left in a classic VW camper van supplied by Mr Bo Jangles. We then visited a private location which Denise and Simon had previously organised to take some stunning pictures in and around the grounds; the leaves had just started to turn to provided a stunning backdrop as the couple walked up the leafy lane to exit the property and make their way to the reception in the camper van. A few more photographs were taken in the lovely gardens at the Waie Inn before the official reception and later evening party got underway.
On their return from a honeymoon in Yorkshire Denise and Simon had this special message for all involved in their special day.

“A loving note can barely say all we felt that magic day. A heart felt thanks is sent to you all for sharing our special day. Keep flying high you beautiful butterfly, never far away, always here to stay.”

Mr Bo Jangles VW Hire

2nd November 2014 by Alan Schofield

It was a pleasure to work along side Bob from Mr Bo Jangles at Denise & Simon’s wedding recently in Winkleigh. His pristine vehicles can be used all year round and the service is not restricted to the simple journey to the ceremony and then onto the reception. It is his desire to fulfil your every wish regarding your wedding transport. For those more unique moments he will travel to another location of your choice prior to the arrival at the reception or if tight for time, and will often wait until after the meal and speeches, to get those special shots, enabling you to relax and cherish those very special moments.

Nicola & Jason Saturday 30th August 2014

2nd November 2014 by Alan Schofield

Goodleigh Church was the venue for the wedding of local couple Nicola and Jason at the end of August. The Church had particular significance to Nicola’s family as this was where her parents had married and Nicola had attended the nearby primary school. The weather was a little changeable during the day but we managed to complete the group photographs outside the church before a short but heavy rain shower. As the guests made their way to the reception at the Barnstaple Hotel we stopped off at a lovely picturesque spot for some romantic shots in the village. The bride and groom asked if we could go to Saunton beach for some evening photographs which I was happy to do as the weather had really settled down. Again we were losing our battle with the fast approaching high tide but captured the shots they wanted before returning for their evening party.
Their two week honeymoon was split between Las Vegas and Mexico.

25th Anniversary Window Display

16th September 2014 by Alan Schofield

I have now been a professional wedding photographer for the last 25 years and to celebrate this landmark I decided to do something a little special in the window.
This would not have been possible though without the support of the following local suppliers, whom we would like to say a BIG thank you to: Frilly Frocks, Twigs, Furniture Magpie, Smallridge Florists and Julie Draper.
Come along and see if you too feature in the display and do not forget to come and join us at our special event on the 20th October which we are holding at the Portmore Golf club’s new function rooms; come and see how the trends and styles have changed over the 25 years. It would be nice if you could also bring along some pictures, or maybe even your album too. During the evening we would like to get a group photo of all our past brides and grooms too so it would be great if you could bring along your wedding dress so that we can include it in the shoot.
Keep an eye out in this week’s North Devon Journal where we feature, also do not forget that we are at the Big North Devon Wedding Fair on Sunday at the Big Sheep, come along and say hello.

Megan & Adam Saturday 23rd August 2014

15th September 2014 by Alan Schofield

It was the second wedding for the Rippon family in the space of three months as Luke’s sister married Adam at the Barnstaple Hotel on a beautiful sunny day at the end of last month. Megan’s wedding dress was supplied by Frilly Frocks, purple was the stunning colour scheme for the wedding with coordinating flowers for the girls and the same for the groomsmen who looked very dapper indeed. After the ceremony the group photographs were taken in the hotel grounds before taking Megan and Adam to the nearby Rotary gardens in Pilton for some shots of just the two of them, they then rejoined their guests for the reception. Later on before the evening party got underway I took Megan and Adam to Saunton beach were I took some lovely romantic shots of them around the rocks before the fast approaching tide reached us. On retuning to town we stopped at Queen Anne’s Walk where I captured some rather different poses of Megan under the statue.
The happy couple spent their honeymoon in the Maldives and for one night got upgraded to a chalet on stilts in the middle of the sea, what a lovely surprise!

Megan and Adam brought a special message with them when they came to look at their photographs last week and this is what it said..
“We would just like to say a huge thank you to all our friends and family who shared our very special day with us, we could not have wished for a better day xxx”

Shona & Simon Monday 30th June 2014

11th August 2014 by Alan Schofield

Just a short entry to tell you about a very small and intimate wedding I covered at the end of June at the Sandy Cove Hotel near Ilfracombe. Shona and Simon came to the North Devon coastal resort from London with their party of four and married at a civil ceremony in the gazebo deep in the hotel grounds. Afterwards we travelled the short distance to Combe Martin beach for some shots alongside the dramatic the rocks then went on to Watermouth Castle before rejoining the family for a wedding lunch celebration on the hotel balcony. I hope to meet up with Shona and Simon again later in the year when they come down to collect their storybook album.

Rob & Marcia Saturday 18th July 2014

11th August 2014 by Alan Schofield

What a day of high emotions and great fun I experienced at Marcia and Rob’s wedding at the end of last month. The Saunton Sands Hotel provided the perfect setting on a scorching summer’s day as the couple were joined by family and friends for their civil marriage ceremony. The bride was very emotional during the actual service as she remembered her late father who has passed away quite recently. The couple’s son Harry stole the show though and kept everyone on their toes along with some of the other younger guests who attended on the day. Due to the very warm conditions the wedding party spend most of the time outside cooling off with their drinks in the hotel grounds. After the wedding reception which was themed around the various places the bride and groom had visited in the Carribean, I returned and took them to the nearby woods and chapel then down to the beach for some romantic shots walking along the water’s edge. Lots more friends arrived later for the evening party and Marcia and Rob later told me what a wonderful day everyone said they had enjoyed!

Michelle & Ashley Friday 6th June 2014

7th July 2014 by Alan Schofield

The sun came out for the first of two weddings of the weekend at the beginning of June as Ashley and Michelle married at the picturesque Tawstock Church near Barnstaple. The stunning bride was attended by three bridesmaids who wore pale dusky pink and two little page boys in dark morning suits. After the service I photographed the groups outside the Church before making our way up the winding road for more shots of Michelle and Ashley in the grounds of the old Tawstock school. The bridal party and guests made their way to the Barnstaple Hotel for the wedding reception followed by evening shots at Saunton beach. I took the newlyweds down to the water’s edge then back up the beach to the colourful huts and dramatic rocks beneath the cliffs before returning for the evening party. The couple spent their honeymoon cruising the Mediterranean for two weeks.

Jess & Luke Sunday 4th May 2014

7th June 2014 by Alan Schofield

The second wedding of the weekend turned out to be even hotter as Jess and Luke married outside under the gazebo at the Fox & Hounds Hotel, Eggesford. The bride looked stunning in a figure hugging bridal gown and a pair of shoes with heels covered in jewels and the bridesmaids wore royal blue. During the wedding ceremony the couple lit three candles in remembrance of three special people who had passed away over the years, a very emotional moment for everyone. Group photos were taken in the lovely grounds of the Hotel, then we made our way down to the lake for some romantic shots beside the lake. We then took a short trip to the nearby woods for some specials pictures amongst the beautifully lit trees before returning for the reception followed later by the evening wedding party. The happy couple spent their honeymoon in Spain.

Laura & Ben Saturday 3rd May 2014

19th May 2014 by Alan Schofield

The weather was very kind to local couple Laura and Ben earlier in the month as they tied the knot at the Cedars Inn Hotel, Barnstaple. The spring sunshine shone down on family and friends all day as they gathered to celebrate the happy day with football-mad Ben and his new wife Laura. The bridesmaid’s light brown dresses were complimented tastefully with peach roses with a hint of pale lilac and cream. We used the hotel gardens for the group shots and a few pictures of the bride and groom before the reception got underway. I rejoined Laura and Ben later in the evening and took them and their two children to Saunton for some special shots of them walking along the beach together. The evening party got underway with an exploding balloon of confetti signaling the start of the first dance. The couple will be honeymooning later in the year.

Fox & Hounds Hotel

13th February 2014 by Alan Schofield

Two recent weddings have taken me to the beautiful Fox & Hounds Hotel, Devon which is licensed for civil weddings and boasts one of the prettiest rooms to get married in. The stunning summerhouse is licensed for outdoor weddings and the luxury garden canopies provide shelter if the weather is not good or the sun is too hot.

They only undertake one wedding per day and can help with any of the arrangements you might need. The dedicated wedding planner will guide you through the planning stage and be present on the day to ensure your special day runs effortlessly. The 6 acres of grounds are stunning with the gazebo blooming with roses and clematis offering a lovely centerpiece for your photos and the lakes and River Taw are perfect scene setters for amazing pictures.

2014 looks like being a Bumper Year!

25th January 2014 by Alan Schofield

Christmas and the New Year seems like a distant memory it has been full steam ahead at Alan Schofield Photography headquarters in Bear Street with a major refurbishment during the first two weeks of January. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers to the studio to discuss their photographic requirements for 2014 and beyond! We kicked off with the Saunton Sands wedding fair on 12th January with a great response and are currently seriously talking with two couples about their forthcoming nuptials. The show was very ‘vintage’ based with that theme being used by lots of couples this year, which will provide some fantastic photo opportunities for me. A couple who did not attend the fair called us up that week regarding their wedding at Pilton next July and booked there and then which was a great boost to the start to the year. Numbers will be close to double the amount I covered last year and I look forward to visiting venues such as Sandy Cove Hotel, Northcote Manor, Fox & Hounds Hotel, Saunton Sands Hotel, The Pier House and Stoodleigh Court to name but a few!

Charlotte & Marcus Saturday 7th September 2013

1st November 2013 by Alan Schofield

Family and friends travelled from as far as New Zealand to the Fox & Hounds Hotel in the heart of Devon to celebrate with London based couple Charlotte and Marcus as they married recently. The intimate party gathered on the lawns as the couple exchanged vows under the gazebo in the lovely grounds of the Hotel. The bride wore a classic white dress and carried a bouquet of white and yellow roses while the bridesmaids wore pale pink and carried simple gypsophila. After the ceremony and group shots we took a gentle stroll down to the pond and I captured some lovely shots of Charlotte and Marcus before returning to the wedding reception.

Helen & Gary Saturday 24th August 2013

23rd September 2013 by Alan Schofield

Black and burgundy was the dramatic stunning colour theme of Helen and Gary’s wedding at The Northcote Manor Hotel at the end of August. A small group of family and friends gathered in the late summer sunshine to celebrate with the couple at the intimate country hotel. The bridesmaids wore black and together with the bride carried deep burgundy lilies supplied by The Flower Lady, sprinkled with tiny pearls, a stunning combination. The colour theme was carried throughout the whole wedding day, the restaurant looking absolutely beautiful in the dark shades contrasting with the white tablecloths. The gardens at Northcote were spectacular as usual and provided me with the surroundings for some lovely shots of the bride and groom.

Helen & David Saturday 17th August 2013

23rd September 2013 by Alan Schofield

The Hunters Inn at Parracombe was the chosen venue for the wedding of Helen and David in mid August. Although the couple live near Birmingham now they both come from the Braunton area so it seemed like a natural choice for the wedding ceremony and reception. The bridesmaids were dressed in pink which complimented the bride’s bouquet of pink and white roses beautifully. After the civil ceremony and despite the rather unseasonal weather we all gathered outside for the group shots then made our way deeper into the stunning grounds for some lakeside shots of Helen and David. As the guests made their way to the tables in the restaurant they found a personalised tea cup and saucer at each of their place settings which were to be taken home as a memory of the special day, a lovely touch appreciated by everyone.

Kayleigh & Andrew Saturday 13th July 2013

6th August 2013 by Alan Schofield

Kayleigh and Andrew chose what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year for their wedding last month. The temperature was already in the high twenties as I arrived at Kayleigh’s parents home in Loxhore were the bridal party were getting ready. The garden was looking immaculate despite the scorching weather and gave me lots of scope for photographs. The bridesmaids then the bride and her Dad left for the short journey to the church in an open-topped carriage pulled by two magnificent black horses (sporting red plumes) courtesy of Ben Ford carriages. The colour theme for the wedding was based on the couple’s favourite football team Arsenal, with the bridesmaids looking stunning in their red dresses and the bride’s bouquet contrasting beautifully against her figure hugging ivory wedding gown. After the service the guests gathered outside for the group photos in the sweltering heat and looked on as the bride and groom left the churchyard in the horse and carriage. After some more photographs in a nearby open field we transferred to the car and started to make our way to Bratton Fleming where a helicopter would be waiting to take the couple to their reception venue. By chance we came across a very picturesque gateway and stream which provided an unexpected photo opportunity. Whilst posing Kayleigh, the owners of the nearby cottage appeared with a tray of cold drinks for us which was a lovely touch and much needed! As we reached the Bratton Fleming sports field the helicopter was just landing and the gust of wind coming from the blades provided relief from the very hot conditions with temperatures now in excess of 30 degrees. I boarded with the couple and got some great shots of them and the views over the North Devon countryside as we headed towards Stoodleigh Court near Tiverton and their waiting guests. Before the wedding breakfast got underway I took the newlyweds for a walk around the lovely grounds for some natural romantic shots then returned them to the cool of the magnificent old manor house.
After a returning from a honeymoon in the Seychelles Kayleigh and Andrew sent us this message…

“The vision we’d had of our Wedding day was realized and surpassed by the day itself, Glorious sunshine, beautiful locations and an amazing cake! But amongst all the glitz, the Mustang and the helicopter, it was the loving atmosphere created by our wonderful friends and family that really made our day so very special, it wouldn’t have been the same without you. All you need is love!”

Tanya & Charles Saturday 8th June 2013

10th July 2013 by Alan Schofield

Eggesford Church provided a most picturesque setting for the wedding of Tanya and Charles last month. The sun shone brightly as the bride to be and her father departed from Winkleigh and were driven to Eggesford in an open-topped white Ferrari whilst the groom arrived at the church in his works van which had been decorated especially for the occasion! Tanya’s bridesmaids who were already at the church, were dressed in tangerine coloured dresses and the pageboys and groomsmen wore matching coloured cravats. After the wedding ceremony in the tiny church I took the group photographs in the grounds and then went to a nearby field and captured some lovely shots of Tanya in the tall grass. As the guests made their way to the Waie Inn for the reception, Charles drove his new wife to the nearby Eggesford Forest in the Ferrari where I met them for some more photos. Using the stunning lighting which was shining through the trees I captured some lovely shots of the couple walking along the forest paths before asking Tanya to drape herself over the wedding car, much to Charles’ deligh!. Back at the reception the guests had spilled out onto the lovely gardens with their drinks and the children played happily in the sunshine before the wedding breakfast got underway in the late afternoon. A honeymoon in New York and Las Vegas followed the wedding and when they got back this is what Tanya and Charles had to say about their special day…

“As if by magic the sun was shining, the day filled with friends, family, memories and more love than we ever could have imagined. The day went so smoothly, we can’t stop thinking about how lucky we are. We would like to say a special thank you to our friends and family for helping to make our Wedding Day even more special, the day was just perfect! xxx”

Andrea & Kristian Saturday 25th May 2013

5th June 2013 by Alan Schofield

What a wonderful weekend for a wedding in Westward Ho! Andrea and Kristian from London brought their family and friends to the Pier House at Westward Ho! to celebrate their wedding on the Bank Holiday weekend; they all stayed in either apartments or caravans overlooking the stunning Bideford  bay across to Saunton and Lundy Island. The bride and her family have fond memories of many  holidays in the are and still visit as often as they can. I met Andrea at her apartment looking beautiful in her ivory wedding gown complete with full length veil, to photograph her and the close bridal party on the balcony overlooking the bay. The colour theme for the wedding was pink and white for the bride and her attendants and grey for the gents, even their pet dog had a specially handmade waistcoat, as he there was to take part in the day too. After the civil ceremony had taken place everyone gathered on the veranda as love pigeons were released into the sky, it was a lovely touch and something that I had never seen before. Group photographs were followed by a short walk to the nearby headland where I photographed Andrea and Kristian looking across the bay to Lundy Island in the distance. The wedding breakfast and evening party went on well into the night but that wasn’t the end of the photographs…

On the Sunday morning I met Andrea, Kristian and their children (plus dog) on the beach and we walked all the way down to the water’s edge for photos strolling alongside the incoming tide; it was something the couple had asked if they could do when booking their wedding and I said yes of course, I would love to do it for them. One special surprise for Andrea just before leaving at the end of the following week, a honeymoon in Rimini, Italy, that Kristian had booked without telling her, and they were going that night!

On returning from honeymoon Andrea and Kristian sent us this message…

“In the words of our first dance its looking like a beautiful day, we couldn’t have had a more perfect day, the sun came to see us and the sea could have been my something blue, the day was made even more special by all the friends and family that traveled so far to share our day, for that we want to say a big thank you. Andrea & Kris Fincham”
